Curriculum Intent
Our aim is to provide our children with an empowering, holistic and engaging curriculum that equips them with the skills and knowledge for life.
At Kentmere Academy, the curriculum is designed to: provide first hand, purposeful learning experiences; allow the children to develop interpersonal skills, build resilience and become creative, critical thinkers.
‘The school strives to continuously renew and refine the curriculum to ensure that it is relevant and meets the changing needs of the pupils. Pupils achieve exceptionally well across the curriculum.’

Enrichment at Kentmere Academy
We enrich our curriculum by:
- Providing on and off-site related activities
- Offering opportunities for children to learn outdoors
- Developing partnerships with external providers that extends children’s opportunities for learning
- Holding specialist curriculum days and ‘wow’ days
- Inviting in visitors to bring learning to life
- Taking children on residential trips
- Welcoming parents and carers to take part in children’s learning and experiences
- Using quality resources in and out of the classroom
- Utilising our local area for regular Geography field trips (at least two per year)
- Arranging career talks to inspire the children
- Participating in local sporting events
Through our holistic and engaging curriculum, we aim to enrich our children by providing them with purposeful, exciting, and real-life learning experiences, including a trip or experience every half term to bring the topic to life.
‘Pupils flourish as a result of the school’s steadfast commitment to supporting their wider personal development. They hone their talents through the praiseworthy extra curricular offer available to them, which includes a wide variety of clubs and trips.’

About our Curriculum
We use a thematic and holistic approach to delivering the curriculum, where possible. Each half term, every class has a new topic, in which the curriculum is taught around. However, when a subject cannot be linked to the topic, it is taught separately. These topics have been carefully selected in order to ensure that a broad and balanced range of subjects are delivered, with clear progression through the school. We believe that teaching through the topic makes the learning more real and memorable for our children. We deliver the foundation subjects on a two-week timetable; this allows for equal coverage and supports ‘sticky learning’ as children are encouraged to revisit and retrieve information from their previous lesson, two weeks ago. Our curriculum is carefully planned and mapped out, based on the National Curriculum.
