Class 9 have been working in groups to explore different travel leaflets, hunting down the best persuasive features. They did a fantastic job of spotting how words and layouts can convince the readers to pack their bags for a holiday - all brilliant practice for when they write their very own Mexico leaflets soon!

Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service are running an awareness campaign to help keep people safe around water.

The campaign key messages warn people of the dangers of open water but also educate them on what to do if they get into difficulty, or see someone else in trouble, in the water. These are:

202 people accidentally drowned in the UK in 2025. Don’t become a statistic. Stay safe around water.

Jumping into open water can be fatal. Cold water shock kills and you don’t know what’s lurking beneath the surface.

If you encourage your mates to go in the water, it could be the last time you see them.

Respect the water - if you get into difficulty in the water, float to live.

Someone in trouble in the water? Remember Phone, Float, Throw - it could save their life. Phone 999 to get help (ask for fire if inland or the coastguard if by the sea). Tell them to stay calm and float on their back. Throw rescue equipment to help them float until emergency services arrive.
